Immigration Celebration

On April 12th, community members will come together in the Cracker Factory (Geneva, NY) to celebrate immigration with a moderated panel discussion on the topic and a Salvadorian meal (7-9pm), followed by an after party with a salsa band (9pm-12am).

The event supports two youth groups associated with the Rural & Migrant Ministry, Inc.: Justice Organization of Youth (JOY), and Adelante Student Voices. JOY members, largely from farmworker backgrounds, use theater to advocate for social justice. Adelante members form a network of undocumented youth in upstate New York who seek educational equity.
The event offers the opportunity to support both programs in a public forum. Hope you can join for an evening of celebration!!

4 for 40: Chef Bryan Keller & Richie Stearns

3Stories is pleased to announce the next installment of 4 for 40. Bryan Keller and Richie Stearns will be the culinary and musical artists on Wednesday, November 14th. Doors open at 5:30pm. Music will be starting at 6pm. The evening will combine the finest that the Finger Lakes has to offer with music presented in an intimate setting with a casual meal of four courses. The bar will be open for beverage purchase featuring craft beers, local Finger Lakes wines, cocktails and non-alcoholic beverages. Reservations are $40 per guest, advance ticket sales required.

4 for 40 features two sets of music and a light dinner featuring 4 small plates. Following the opening set of music, the artists will join the guests for dinner, and conclude with a second set of music with dessert to follow.

Chef Bryan Keller, originally from Ithaca, NY, is currently the Executive Chef at Za Za's Cucina in Ithaca. Bryan's background includes development of concepts such as Luna Inspired Street Food and Monk's on the Commons inside the new Marriott in downtown Ithaca. The 25 year veteran of the food service industry has recently completed a season at Zama's Hotel and Que Fresco restaurant in Tulum, Mexico as executive chef. He has recently returned to his roots in upstate NY to further pursue business and culinary ventures. Bryan is a father of three amazing humans; Damon, Lyla and Fiona as well as his faithful sidekick, an old English Bulldog named Jax. Bryan and Richie, being kindred spirits carrying tons of mutual respect and admiration for one another, have teamed up to present you with a special pairing experience that we hope delights the heart, soul, mind and belly.

RICHIE STEARNS first discovered the pleasures of the old time banjo when he was 14. He’s traveled round the world, performing both traditional and his own original music, finding ways to collaborate with musicians from five continents (Africa/Asia/North America, Australia, Europe) as well as local musicians from diverse musical backgrounds (classical, jazz, country, R&B, and more). Over the past three decades, he’s written original music for film scores and dance ensembles as well his own bands (The Horse Flies, Evil City String Band, Ti Ti Chickapea, Donna the Buffalo, and the Renegades, among them) and collaborated with artists from a variety of disciplines to present public performances on stages through the U.S., Canada, and Europe, as well as on radio and television.

A founding member of the neo traditional alternative rock band THE HORSE FLIES, he’s toured extensively over the last three decades, recording eight albums with The Horse Flies, including releases on MCA and Rounder Records. (The Horse Flies have been featured on MTV, Prairie Home Companion, All Things Considered, World Café and Mountain Stage, and have been written about in Rolling Stone, the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Boston Globe, and other major publications.)
The list of musicians Richie’s recorded, toured, and performed with is long and diverse: among them, jazz guitarist BILL FRISELL, Malian bluesman VIEUX FARKA TOURE, North Indian Gypsy band MUSAFIR, Tibetan singer YUNGCHEN LLAMO, pop legend LINDA RONSTADT, country and bluegrass musicians (including PETER ROWAN, VASSAR CLEMENTS, TONY TRISCHKA, and JIM LAUDERDALE), Cajun groups (Michael Doucet & BEAUSOLEIL, REDSTICK RAMBLERS), Celtic bands (DE DANNAN, John Doyle of SOLAS) and Australia’s KASEY CHAMBERS as well as SAMITE of Uganda and South African Afro-pop star JOHNNY CLEGG.

3Stories is pleased to announce the next installment of 4 for 40. Jen Cork and Tony Harlow of Lulu Taqueria will be the musical and culinary artists on Wednesday, October 3rd.

We are excited to welcome Jen Cork as our musical artist for this installment. Jen Cork is the kind of powerful singer / songwriter who silences barrooms with one vocal phrase. A well-known contributor to the robust Ithaca, NY music scene, she enjoys ruminating on rusty objects, spaces, and emotions, and the energy and rubble they hold. It has been said that her voice sounds like history--that you can hear legacy in her songs. You can check out her songs at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K69v4GDrsUQ&list=PLvtioZ_V66jseMpB3t6-YonPnpfuGk-pV&index=1.

Tony Harlow of Lulu Taqueria & Bar in Fairport, New York will be our featured chef for this installment. Lulu Taqueria opened in March 2018 with a cuisine inspired by LA street food. Tony Harlow, a California native has put a creative twist on the food he has grown up with in creating menus. Partnered with Mike Pavone, these two chefs will be bringing a unique menu inspired by their menu at Lulu Taqueria to the Cracker Factory.

Shrimp's Little Big Block Party

We wanted to call this the "Album Distribution Party" but Brandon liked "The Shrimps Big Little Block Party" better. We'll have vinyl copies of our new album for sale (and to hand out to those who backed the Kickstarter campaign). If the weather cooperates, we'll be out on the roof deck and it will be awesome. If the weather sucks, we'll be inside and it will still be awesome. Maybe we'll even let people choose Youtube videos to project behind us while we're playing. And oh yeah, Shrimps will be performing a set or two of their greatest hits. This event is free and open to the public and the Cracker Factory bar will be open and ready to serve you!

The evening will combine the finest that the Finger Lakes has to offer with music presented in an intimate setting with a casual meal of four courses. Carl Bray is an well-known chef in the Finger Lakes, currently the lead chef at Geneva on The Lake. Carl Bray started at Geneva On The Lake in 2007 and enrolled at the Alfred State Culinary program and graduated in 2009. Since then, he has become lead chef and had the opportunity to connect the menu with great neighboring farmers and artisans who show off their talents and passion in their craft. Bray has had the privilege to be a part of many different collaborations, such as the Hobart and William Smith Colleges’ Chefs Collaborative Garden; Medley of Tastes; Slice, Dice and Spice; and The Finger Lakes Culinary Bounty Annual Harvest Dinner. His experiences and connections with others in his field contribute to his growth as a chef.

Elaine Romanelli is an award-winning NYC-based singer/songwriter and composer. Her clear voice and vibrant spirit meld in earthy, tuneful songs. She tours nationally, playing listening rooms, house concerts, libraries, colleges, and festivals, and her music spins on public and independent radio across the country and internationally. Elaine has performed at multiple festivals including as a Semi-Formal showcase artist at folk regional music conference NERFA and as a 2016 Falcon Ridge Folk Festival Emerging Artist chosen from among hundreds of applicants around the US and Canada. Elaine writes choral liturgical music as well as singer/songwriter material. In 2017 she was named the Composer-in-Residence at the Church of St. Matthew and St. Timothy in New York City, which has premiered several of her choral liturgical works. Her gospel-style service music set was chosen to be sung at the 2016 Episcopal Diocese of New York's annual convention, likely the first time a living female composer's work has ever been featured at that event.

FEAST in the Heart of the Finger Lakes

There's no shortage of culinary creativity in the Finger Lakes region, and this spring, one renowned chef wants to bring everyone together for a feast.

The inaugural F.E.A.S.T. (Feeding Everyone Around Shared Tables) in the Heart of the Finger Lakes tasting event will be held April 24 at The Cracker Factory in Geneva. Executive Chef Samantha Buyskes of Three Brothers Wineries and H.J. Stead Company is organizing the event in hopes of it becoming an annual affair. Proceeds will benefit Foodlink, the food bank serving the Finger Lakes and Genesee Valley regions of New York. Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott is serving as an event sponsor ... we appreciate your support!

Buyskes, who was born in South Africa, opened her first restaurant in Trumansburg - near Ithaca - in 2002. When her career brought her to Geneva, she wanted to find a way to give back to the community and "everything lined up" when she began discussing ideas with the owners of The Cracker Factory, a stunning event space on Lehigh Street.

One of Foodlink's member agencies, the Geneva Food Pantry, sits across the street from the venue.

Buyskes plans to invite approximately 20 chefs to the event. General admission will be priced at $35, and VIP tickets - which include a private, pre-event reception with live music - will go for $55.

4 for 40: Merrill Moore and Jacob Johnson

3Stories is pleased to announce the next installment of the 4 for 40 series of evenings pairing music and dinner at Geneva’s iconic Cracker Factory. Guitarist and songwriter Jacob Johnson and chef Merrill Moore of Stan’s Waterloo will be the featured musical and culinary artists for on Wednesday, April 4th from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. Doors open at 5:30. The evening will combine the finest that the Finger Lakes has to offer with music presented in an intimate setting with a casual meal of four courses. Reservations are $40 per guest, advance ticket sales required.

4 for 40 features two sets of music and a light dinner featuring appetizer, salad, entree, and dessert courses. Following the opening set of music, the artists will join the guests for dinner, and conclude with a second set of music with dessert.

Part virtuoso and part storyteller, you might say that Jacob Johnson does with a guitar what Gene Kelly did with dance. Although his songwriting has won awards and his guitar-playing has put him on stage with Tommy Emmanuel and Phil Keaggy, his ability as an entertainer is what has won fans throughout the southeast. He refers to himself as "a ham that just wants to be on stage" but he’s much more than that. Jacob is an amazingly talented guitarist and songwriter which, combined with a bit of a personality, makes for a wildly impressive stage performance.

For the past three years, Merrill Moore has been a key player in the expansion of the food industry in Waterloo, NY. Throughout the years, he has worked to create the concepts and menus for multiple restaurants including West Main Kitchen, WMK Taqueria, and Stan’s Waterloo. Currently working as the consulting Chef and founding partner of Stan’s Waterloo, Moore has gone above and beyond in establishing a modern gastro pub. From his concept burgers to smoked meats, he has showcased his skills and expansive knowledge. Moore’s resume reaches beyond the Finger Lakes. From New York City to Mexico to Belgium, his experiences have afforded him numerous titles and accolades.
